I hadn’t seen anything by Woody Allen prior to this. Are all his movies edited/shot this way? It seems like Wes Anderson could have taken some cues from this film in developing his well-established style. But I know little about film. After all, prior to this evening I’d never even seen Annie Hall!
The film was ceaselessly funny, Allen’s character couldn’t stop telling jokes and Keaton and many others in the cast were enchanting as their characters. I liked the aforementioned elements of cinematic style. I also enjoyed the story, particularly its casual rebuke of the classic romcom trope of fixing it all up in the end.
Also the endless parade of cameos that, at the time, were just no-name extras.
