Bicycle Thieves

I’m still not sure what to say about this film. I want to recommend it, but currently I am withholding that. The camera work feels somehow ahead of its time, and the acting is great. The story is so sad because the main character is so believable. His desperate impotence trying just to get by in a desperate world, his gradual fall over the course of the movie, and most importantly, the father-son relationship that is so wounded through his journey. The look on Bruno’s face when he sees his father become exactly who had harmed them was devastating.
