Death on the Nile

I liked this one more than the second, but I watched them in one sitting so it may have just been the fact that I was committed to the Poirot character after two hours. But there are some things I can point to that I loved: the music. The dubbing of the singing was strange but not entirely offputting. But the era of song is right up my alley so I enjoyed it greatly, and having musicians as suspects opportuned the use of more jazz than otherwise would have felt natural. Because of the slightly wider setting it had compared to the first (boat on river in desert vs train buried in snow on a mountain pass), it displayed many more sweeping, scenic shots than the first, if fewer dramatic ones. My complaint about minimal emotional attachment to Hercule was perhaps overcorrected by this entry, as it invested quite strongly in developing is tragic backstory, at some points, I thought, to the detriment of the murder mystery itself. With that said, the setup for the mystery was quite fun in this one, as it was so obvious who the victim was going to be but the film teased for a long time the crime before its commitment.
