This movie was kind of upsetting. It had a strong existential bend, and also a streak of religious zealotry leading to child abuse. It had some great animation, though, and the compositing of the mixed-reality scenes was really cool. I wanted maybe a bit more from the characters as they came to accept and find meaning in their tangential existences, but it was already a large movie, and conversations with my viewing partner made it clear how certain things that might seem so important to us (the assumed nihilistic chaos of the ten year gap between the intro and the main story) need to be cut for the purpose of framing the real story. But then, maybe the real story is less interesting, Maybe the real main character is not who I feel like I need to hear from.
