Synchronic

The description for this film was wildly misleading. I also wish they had done a little more with the editing, especially of the experimentation scenes. It could have been more psychedelic, which, given the subject matter and the primary conflicts, would have served to elevate it, I think. But to judge it as it is: it’s a bit strangely paced but enjoyable. I was quite tired when watching it and it managed to keep me awake for the entire film, which is saying a lot because I’ve fallen asleep during the climax of Princess Mononoke at least four times. The thriller’s mechanic creates a great initial mystery. Once that has been resolved and the important part becomes how said mechanic can resolve the character’s other problems, it loses a bit of wind. The two main characters are excellent foils, being two sides of the same toxic healthcare worker stereotype of ignoring ones own problems to help another. That very stereotype both binds and stretches them throughout the film.

Overall I liked it, but it was one of those films I had very strong feelings I could have improved had I only been consulted!
